Australian War Memorial
An entry experience designed to surprise and delight
In February 2015, the Australian War Memorial opened a new permanent First World War exhibition. At the launch the Memorial unveiled a state-of-the-art audio tour experience with largescale digital display by Snepo Research. It has become a must-see attraction offering multiple layers of interactivity and a unique experience for visitors to one of Australia’s most popular cultural institutions.
On arrival visitors are given a mobile device that allows them to download audio tours from an interactive display created by Snepo with twenty 55” multitouch screens. An indoor-positioning system is then used to trigger content as the visitor moves through the galleries. The immersive and theatrical experience is curated in real-time, providing visitors with a new way to engage with the Memorial’s highly emotive content.
Snepo’s system is designed to allow for additional tours and multi-language to be added over time. The screen content is also easily updated and synchronised across all 20 screens in a seamless experience for multiple users. Visitors are invited to freely determine their own path through the new First World War galleries.
